East St. Louis Wrestling Club was founded in 2008 with a simple but powerful goal: to bring the sport of wrestling to the youth of East St. Louis and to create a place where young athletes could grow. Not only on the mat, but in life and in their faith.

Our earliest practices were held inside the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center, a cornerstone of the Lansdowne neighborhood and a trusted space for families throughout the community. From the very beginning, the Center served as more than just a training facility. It was a safe haven and a place where young people were encouraged, supported, and challenged to believe in themselves.
At the East St. Louis Wrestling Club, we believe wrestling is a tool for transformation. The lessons learned through the sport — perseverance, work ethic, mental toughness, and respect — extend far beyond competition. Our mission is to help young athletes develop confidence, character, and a sense of purpose that carries into the classroom, their families, and the broader community.

More than a team, we are a family. We are committed to providing a positive, structured environment where youth are supported, expectations are high, and success is defined by growth both on and off the mat. Through wrestling, mentorship, and community support, we aim to prepare our athletes not just to win matches — but to rise as leaders.
